Unexpected Star of the Week 22/10/21
Timothy Ley
Northbridge Golf Club
Each week we catch up with one of our players to ask about their Target Scores win…
1. Why do you think Target Scores are a great addition to golf club competitions?
Tim: Target scores has given me focus to become a better golfer. I used to be happy playing to my handicap, now I want to lower it by achieving or exceeding my target score.
2. How many months or years since you last won a comp?
3. What score won this comp?
Tim: The score that won the competition when I hit my target score was 45 points, I hit my target score with 38 and won a ball for coming 5th in B grade. I won $50 from Target Scores.
4. Tell us a little about a great hole where you fought to get a point or 2 or 3 or 4.
Tim: On the last hole I needed 3 points to reach my target. Tee shot in the tree’s, chipped out, hit the green, and left myself 10 feet downhill breaking right to left. The putt would’ve probably gone 5-10 feet past the hole but it hit the pin and dropped 🙂
5. If you had a time machine, what hole would you play differently and how would you play it?
Tim: I had double bogies on 15,16 and 17 – massive choke. If I had my time again I would have refocused and made every shot count.
6. What’s the craziest shot you have ever seen?
Tim: Craziest shot I’ve ever hit was on The Lakes Par 5 11th, hooked my ball into the trees and left myself with a 25 metre flop over trees with water over the back. I laid the club flat and swung as hard as I could. The ball brushed a leaf, landed on the green, spun sideways and went in. Game changer in our side bet.
7. Why should golfers play your course?
Tim: Ive found Northbridge GC to be full of friendly people who want to play good golf. The course teaches you a lot about your golf game, but most of all to keep the ball in play and straight as you are often OB if you are off your game.
